Tenancies COVID-19 Response ACT’s 2020 FAQs

The Western Australian Parliament has passed legislation through Parliament relating to the real estate industry and COVID-19, that has implications for Landlords and Tenants.

The two Bills were:

  • Residential Tenancies (COVID-19 Response) Bill 2020
  • Commercial Tenancies (COVID-19 Response) Bill 2020.

It is expected that the effect of the Bills will be backdated to the 30th March 2020.

Once proclaimed, which is expected soon, these Bills will become known as the COVID-19 Act. They will be repealed 12 months after the emergency period ends – which is currently expected to be 30 September 2020.

Update: Now extended to 28 March 2021

The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) has prepared some useful FAQs on the new legislation so we’ve posted these links to assist all of our real estate clients.
